A new image of Valletta Station in 1918 come from an unusual source.
It was published in the London & North Western Railway in-house magazine. A Mr A Hamer, former clerk in the Nuneaton Goods department, had been recuperating in the Ghajn Tuffieha convalescent camp during WWI.
He took the snapshot of the Malta Railway as he prepared to depart the island, and thought to send it to the magazine who duly published it.
The quality is poor, but enough to tell it’s a Beyer Peacock engine waiting to depart. Notice too, the cast iron lamp standard on the back edge of the platform.
