Colour my world…

I’m on record as disliking colourised photos, mainly because so many turn out so badly. Ai is bad at recognising shapes and forms in black and white, and tends to wash images in inaccurate or wildly peculiar tones. More so now, Ai will try and regenerate the original image, making even more errors and more inaccuracies that distort the past.

Things are improving however, but this image of a train waiting departure from Valletta station depends on more traditional techniques. Tinting was widely used on early 20th Century postcards, and now can be easily applied using apps like Photoshop.

The original black and white version of this shot is also included here, and, I confess, Ai has been helpful in enlarging the image generatively, to improve the clarity and resolution. Further tweaks in Photoshop also improved things.

All 102k of the original image downloaded from online. The origin of the original is unknown.

Hopefully, this image now gives a good impression of the original appearance of the Malta Railway trains in their native habitat.

And now… maybe Ai can add a new dimension to the image…
