Ticket to ride

An example set of Malta Railway Tickets held as part of a personal collection donated to the UK National archives, Kew. They’re unusual as they are all preserved with their counterfoils still attached, suggesting they were never used. The colourful spectrum of tickets cover Third Class, Military, and Workmen’s tickets for each, and both, “zones” the line was divided into for the purpose of fares.

Missing from this set are the corresponding First Class tickets for the various zones. This would suggest there were at least ten different colour-coded tickets in use in any single day!
